Men's Fashion: The Essentials

Good evening!! First off, I would like to give a shout out and big thank you to everyone who has been checking out my blog, especially those from out of the country! I appreciate all the views and I hope that at least one thing that I have posted about has helped you in your journey to a better wardrobe, fashion, and style! As always, feel free to leave comments and continue to follow me!

Since I have posted a few more things about women's fashion than men's, tonite will be another post for men. I am going to talk about the staples that all men should have in their closet (and the pictures below to help display these looks).

Where to begin....how about shirts? For men, a few basic shirts will go a long way when on a tight budget or if space is limited. These shirts include:
  • plain colored t-shirts(v-neck or rounded)
  • polos
  • printed tees
  • long sleeve printed tee
  • button up long sleeve/short sleeve
    • WHITE(no excuses)
    • plaid
    • or other prints

And due to the fact that they are close in relationship to shirts, the jacket-type things that should be in a man's closet is:
  • a sweater vest
  • a sweater
    • plain
    • printed(argoyle is a popular and good print to go with)
  • a casual partial zip-up sweatshirt
  • a sports/suit jacket
  • a plain vest

Now for the pants. Every man should have at least one pair of:
  • dark wash jeans(you can NEVER go wrong with a good pair of dark wash jeans)
  • lighter wash jeans
  • khakis
  • dress pants(whichever color you prefer)
    • black
    • grey
    • brown

With these items you can create a multitude of outfits that can go anywhere from totally casual to completely dressed up with ease. For example......

This is just for one of those days when you wake up late and have enough time to throw something on and walk out the door. By throwing on this type of t-shirt, you get a little bit more of a put together look and with no effort(so much better than those old ratty t-shirts).
This is for something simple for school or going out dancing at your favorite rodeo. Who doesn't like a guy in a great button up and dark jeans with boots?
Again....for those who just don't feel like looking as put together as the previous outfit and just need something quick and on the go for lunch out with the bros at Wing Stop(or wherever you enjoy eating with your buds).
For the classic black button up-pair it with your dark was jeans and your dress shoes and you are ready to be catching all the girls. So classy this is...put a tie on and you are set to go for a date!
Here's a take on the white button up that every man should have in his closet-NO EXCUSES!!! Put one of your plain t-shirts under it with the dark wash jeans and here's another casual look.
If you don't really care for just plain t-shirts, put the printed tee under the white shirt and you get the same look.

The polos.....a polo and khakis are great for a job or for the fraternity you are in if there is something you need to look a little nicer for(plus you are already for the round of golf afterwards).
If you are just really into your polos and don't care for t-shirts that much, pair it with your jeans and you have yet again another casual look.
An example of what to wear with khakis...super simple choice is your white button up. This also makes for another good work outfit.

Though the picture isn't very clear, this is a printed button up with a pair of jeans. It goes very well with the theme of something simple and easy to throw on in the mornings to look put together.

Here's another version of the printed button up and printed t-shirt the proper way. Whichever shirt you pick to have the "bolder print" make sure that the other shirt is a more subtle print so as to not make your outfit look extremely tacky.

I know it isn't summer yet, but there are those guys who like to wear shorts year round no matter what the weather is. So for you men who are like that....any of these shirts will go good with a good pair of khakis. Just know you will get crazy looks for wearing shorts in the middle of winter.

Now to get a little dressier....pair your button up shirt with the sport/suit jacket with your dark wash jeans for a business casual feel. If you want a little extra dress, you can put on a bowtie(like shown below) or a tie.

Here is a great example of an argoyle sweater that should be in the closet. You can wear this a couple different ways. 1) you can put a t-shirt underneath it and be casual, or 2) you can put a button up underneath it and have more of a business casual look. For pants, go with either the dress pants(black would look best with this vest), dark wash jeans, or depending on the color you could possibly do khaki with this as well. A very multifunctional item of clothing.

And JCPenny does a fabulous job of a classic casual look that is a hit with the girls. I think it is pretty self explanatory as for what you need, but I will go ahead and tell you: button up, pull-over sweater, and dark wash jeans.
Here is another eye catcher and look for the business casual Friday's or even church. The suit jacket, printed button up, and dark wash jeans create this amazing look.

I know I just covered a lot, but you now have several looks to put together and wear, plus a variety to pick from for whatever the occasion may be. A final thought is that although it isn't a cheap thing to purchase, investing in a suit is well worth it. Not only will you be able to achieve several of these looks, but it can also be worn for interviews and other events that are more formal than business casual. All the outfits that are shown are from Old Navy and JCPenny. Though they are not the cheapest type of clothing, they are good brands and you can easily find them at a store such as Plato's Closet for much cheaper. I continue to hope that I help you in your journey to creating an amazing wardrobe selection and remember...always dress for the job or goal you want to achieve-success in your dating life or your job may be around the corner; one of these ensembles could put you one step closer to that accomplishment!

Good luck!!

One of my favorite looks-classy casual

If you haven't figured it out yet, I absolutely love anything that's casual and classy. The reason: it gives someone the opportunity to dress up a little but still be comfortable at the same time. The great thing is you can practically turn an casual outfit classy and more dressy by adding just a few key accessories. After you figure out which key items turn that casual outfit more dressy, you will become a pro at the classy casual look.

Today's template is an inspiration from an outfit that I have and absolutely love! Even better, I got the entire outfit at bargain prices! So here's the low down on this amazing outfit!

The wardrobe picks:
  • the shirt: lace and in a dark grey shade
    • This in and of itself speaks class. I got my shirt from Plato's closet(brand: Express) for $8.00. The high collar gives it some conservativeness, but then the little poof at the sleeve and it being short sleeve tone the conservative aspect down. It is definitely a business-like shirt, but totally says class.
  • the camisole
    • RED. What other color do you think of besides black when you think about something classy? Not only does the red compliment the dark grey, it is also perfect for that wonderful little holiday coming up, Valentine's Day. Another reason why I chose red for the under shirt to show through the lace is because of the shoes I wanted to wear with this. I got my camisole at Forever21 for $3.
  • the shoes
    • Now my shoes do not look exactly like these, but they are similar. I know heels may seem like the complete opposite of casual, but the heels for this look aren't extreme. They are very small and just give it that little element of being more dressed up than what you actually are. The bow on the top gives also helps give it more of a relaxed look, per se. My shoes that are similar to this, I got at CATO on sale for $4.
  • the pants
    • White pants are a definite hazard and risk to wear anytime, especially on a date, but it is well worth it. By having the pant color white, it offsets the darker top and draws the eyes down all the way to your feet(so they can see your wonderful red shoes). Depending on what kind of pant leg you like, you can go for either the skinny leg or the trouser leg. I prefer the skinny leg for this outfit because it looks more casual than the trouser leg. Skinny leg will also allow the shoe to be shown off completely, something trouser legs do not allow you to do. I purchased my skinny leg white jeans at JCPenny for $10.
  • the purse
    • Although it may not seem like the color nude goes well with this color scheme, it fits perfectly. Because the shirt and other accessories are bold, the purse needs to be plain and simple, which this purse totally fits the description. Normally a clutch would be called for to bring in the class, but because we don't want to look extremely dressed up, we go with something larger. Plus, you can put a lot of stuff in it, a definite not if carrying a clutch. I got my purse that is nude and similar to this at Charming Charlie for $40(I know it isn't totally a bargain, but it goes with everything and the quality is great so it will last a very long time. You have to splurge on something every once in a while!).
  • The accessories
    • the necklace
      • Owls are totally in right now. There is something about them that is fun and playful, yet sophisticated too. Any silver owl necklace that is longer will work for this. I purchased mine at $1 Jewelry Galore(pretty sweet place if you have never been) for obviously a $1.
    • the bangles
      • Every girl needs a good set of silver bangles that she can wear with anything and everything. They add a little sparkle and fun to the outfit and match the silver to the necklace. I got mine at Forever21 for $5(it may sound a little on the higher end, but again it is good quality and you get several bracelets that you can wear all at the same time or just by themselves).
    • the earrings
      • Because the necklace and bangles provide some boldness, texture, and pattern to the outfit on top of the lace shirt, a simple hoop earring is great. If you do not have hoop earrings, simple diamond studs work, too. Do not go any more fancy than this. Just like the purse, the earrings need to be simple and casual.  I purchased my hoops as part of a set of studs and dangly earrings from $1 Jewelry Galore for a $1.
Put all of this together and you have the perfect combination of class and casualness to wear the entire day. Also, notice that besides the purse, I didn't spend anymore than $10 on a single part of this outfit. Split apart the pieces and you can have many more outfits to wear with other items you have in your wardrobe already. You will look amazing and dressed up for whatever you wear this to, but will be very comfortable and casual at the same time. Many compliments should be coming your way!

I hope you have fun on the Valentine's date, or wherever you wear this to, and remember you can have the expensive looks for bargain prices.

Baby boys-without all the characters and words

Good afternoon! Today's subject is BABIES!! I'm sure you all have friends or family that have a baby on the way or already here. And, if you are anything like me, you always find yourself drawn to the baby section and wanting to buy every cute outfit that you could possibly find for them! There is nothing wrong with doing that, but if you are going to make sure that you buy very versatile clothing; clothing that can be mixed and matched with many things and not just one thing. As per request, this is for dressing the baby boy in your life without any wording or characters(disney, animals, etc.) on it.

So, just like adults, babies have a basic wardrobe essentials for them to look super adorable! Here is a boys basic wardrobe needs:
-a white button up onesie or shirt(if you don't like the button up, a tshirt-like white shirt will work too)
-khakis
-dark wash jeans
-plaid, striped, or other print of button up shirt(it can be plain as well, whichever you prefer)
-sweater vest(long sleeve or tank top)
-regular vest
-polo
-plain colored shirt or onesie
and of course...
-a tie

With just these few items, you can dress your baby boy for any occasion and never have the same outfit twice. For example:
-khakis, white button up shirt, and sweater vest makes the perfect church outfit
-dark wash jeans and the printed shirt make the perfect picture outfit(if you want to get a little classier, add the regular vest to it)
-polo with either the khaki or jeans make a casual outfit for any outting
-white button up, dark wash jeans, and tie is the perfect look for showing him off at the dinner date with friends

Depending upon how many different styles, colors, and number of each essential that you get, determines how many outfits you can come up with. I came up with four, but there are many more that can come from that short list. Remember, these are just the essentials and you can go beyond just this. If you are someone who likes the shirts with wording or characters, pair it with a button up and it becomes a little more dressy. Whether with words/characters or without, your baby boy will be the talk of wherever you are with this simple starter wardrobe!

Have fun, and enjoy spoiling that baby in your life!

Men's Date Night Wear

Good Friday evening friends! It's the start of the weekend which means time to go on those dinner dates with your significant other and/or friends. This post is for the men-so pay attention!

Gentlemen: there is a little thing called class that women absolutely appreciate and love. This can easily be expressed on date night by the clothes that you wear. It may seem really weird at first, but believe me, your date will not be able to take her eyes off of you. Thankfully for you, this look takes the exact same amount of time as any other thing that you would pick to wear for a date. Now-for the details.

To obtain this classy look you will need:
-dark wash jeans(straight, bootcut, or regular)
-a plain white button up shirt
-a black suit vest
-a tie(make sure it matches the color of your date's outfit)
-a watch(NOT a sports watch)
and
-a dress shoe(your Sunday best preferably)

Now dress yourself. The tie can be showing at the bottom and top of the verst, but if it's too short to show at the bottom that is fine. I understand some of you men don't care for ties, so a bow tie will work as well. Again though, make sure it matches your date's outfit. If you don't have a plain white button up, a plaid shirt and a plain tie under the monotone black vest will look just as good!

Tell me-was that easy or what? Your classy outfit is complete and it took the same amount of time as putting on a tshirt and tennis shoes, yet you look twice as dressy! You might even begin to notice yourself dressing like this more often due to all the looks and stares you will get! A woman appreciates a man who acts like a gentlemen and dresses classy. It is so much more attractive than the ratty old tshirt and jeans and super ego that most guys bring along to the date with them.

Have fun on the date and hopefully there will be many more to come! Remember...you look amazing and classy!

some updating and construction

Hello everyone! Here in the next couple days I will be doing some major updating and reconstruction to my blog. Although I will continue to blog about thrifting and putting outfits together, I will not be focusing specifically on women. I have had many requests to widen up my topic and include men and children to my blogging. Therefore, the name of this blog will be changed to be more male and child friendly. Please keep checking out the blog and hopefully it will keep being beneficial to you and now others who are very important to you. Thank you for your patience and views!
